Abstract

In this article, a solution to estimate the optical receiver sensitivity was presented. In the laser rangefinder systems and optical communication system, the sensitivity is used as a base to determine the maximum distance or link margin available in their system. The sensitivity is the minimum value of the input signal so that the bit-error ratio (BER) exceeds a certain specified number. The calculation of optical receiver sensitivity will be the base to design an optical system suitable to extremely short pulses and high frequencies which is used for laser rangefinder or optical communication.
